Puria^® Brain and Vision Support Capsules are specifically designed for women who are planning to become pregnant and women who are pregnant or breastfeeding.  They contain a unique blend of nutrients to support your baby’s healthy brain and eye development as they grow before birth and as you are breastfeeding.

Prior to getting pregnant, and throughout pregnancy and breastfeeding it is important that your body receives adequate nutrition to fully support your own needs and that of your child.

So just why are these nutrients important for you and your baby at this time in your life, and how do they help?

• Highly Refined Fish Oil (DHA - docosahexaenoic acid and EPA – eicosapantaenoic acid) - are essential Omega 3 fatty acids that cannot be produced by the body.  Both DHA and EPA contribute to cardiovascular health, and DHA plays an important role in the nervous system and retina of the eye.   Each capsule contains 300mg of DHA and 90mg of EPA.  

• Lutein - is the major component of the retina of the eye, and is important for vision.  Lutein is naturally sourced from marigold flower petals, other yellow flowers and leafy green vegetables.  High levels of lutein in the eye are associated with healthy vision, and it is thought to play a role in preventing oxidation damage.  Using a supplement source of lutein can be of use when there is insufficient lutein in the diet.  Each capsule contains 10mg lutein 

• Vitamin D - contributes to normal growth and development in children, is necessary for normal bone structure, maintenance of normal teeth and the immune system. Puria Brain and Vision Support capsules contain 600IU of Vitamin D derived from a natural source (lanolin).

• Vitamin A - necessary for normal vision and contributes to normal growth and development in children.  Vitamin A also contributes to the absorption of iron from the diet, and to normal immune function.  Each capsule contains 2mg Vitamin A.

Is it safe for me to take 320% of the recommended intake of DHA, and 300% of the recommended Vitamin D when I am pregnant?

Yes it is.  According to the Nutrient Reference Values for Australia and New Zealand¹ published by the New Zealand Ministry of Health and The Australian Department of Health and Ageing they define the following upper limits during pregnancy:

-        Upper Limit for DHA of 3,000mg daily.  Puria^® Brain and Vision Support Capsules are just 10% of this upper limit for DHA.

-        Upper Limit for Vitamin D of 3,200IU daily. Puria^® Brain and Vision Support Capsules are just 19% of this upper limit for Vitamin D.
